FIRST ACTION BRIEF

Make the first action clear.
Align the team in one page.

£2,000 | 5 days.

Every launch, product or change, hinges on a single first action. Not ten. Not a vague “they’re onboarded.” One clear step.
The trouble? Teams rarely agree on what that step is. Product says one thing. Comms another. Leadership another. The launch goes live with three different targets and no clear owner.

The First Action Brief ends that drift. In three days you’ll have a single, written decision:

  • The one action a new user must take

  • When it should happen

  • How it’s measured

  • Who owns it

Short. Sharp. Binding. No endless workshops. No debate loops.

Short. Sharp. Binding. No endless workshops. No debate loops.

Choose this if:

  • “Activation” means different things to different people.

  • Your team can’t describe the first job a new user (or staff member) should do.

  • Early numbers are scattered, and nobody knows which ones matter.

  • Launch is close (<4 weeks) and you need crisp acceptance criteria.

If you can’t answer “What’s the one thing a new user must do?” in a single sentence, start here.

Why trust Alterkind

We don’t run workshops for show. And we don’t hand you a slide deck and walk away.

We’re behavioural strategists. We’ve worked with product teams and change leaders at pivotal moments where adoption is fragile and every decision counts.

Our job is to cut through debate and land a decision the whole team can stand behind. That’s why the First Action Brief is one page long and why it sticks.

What happens next?

Day 1 | Quick stakeholder calls (45 mins)
Short chats with Product, Design/UX, Data, Comms, Ops (and Legal/Privacy if needed). We gather perspectives, current numbers, and known risks.

Day 1 (async) | Team input
A short 5-question form so each team shares their one-line definition of “first action” and any non-negotiables.

Day 2 | Target Action Workshop (120 mins)
A focused session to agree the one action, the moment it should happen, how we’ll measure it, and what has to be true before launch.
Outputs: draft decision page, the agreed test, a named lead, and open questions.

Day 3 | Draft Brief
We share the one-page draft with roles, responsibilities, and a summary of what was agreed.

Day 5 | Sign-off & Handover (30 mins)
The sponsor signs the final Brief. We run a handover call to confirm responsibilities and dates.

Small team? We compress steps 1–3 into a single 90-minute session.
You walk away with a signed-off target everyone can use.

Who it’s for

  • Product leaders fixing first-use journeys

  • Change managers rolling out new systems

  • Design leads needing clarity before refining flows

What we need from you

  • A Loom or link showing the first-use flow (or roll-out steps)

  • Three numbers: sign-ups, completions, drop-offs (proxies fine)

  • 4 hours of your time across the week, that’s it

What success looks like

  • Everyone can answer “What’s the first action?” the same way

  • Launches only go live when the agreed criteria are met

  • A named owner tracks the metric weekly, without prompting
